Whoops...

Wow... where did this past month go?! I have been a seriously lazy blogger! It's been so ridiculously nice lately and I've been so crazy busy that I just haven't had time.

I have been working like a crazy person! I have a full time job at a non-profit arts organization during the week, but I also work part time as a server at a local sushi bar. The extra money from serving goes towards fun stuff like vacations, concerts, and of course, clothes! That way I don't really have to touch my paychecks for anything other than bills, rent, etc.

And with all the nice weather the last thing I've been spending way less time in front of the tv and computer. I live within walking distance of tons of restaurants, shops, and bars (and the two most important places- a snow cone stand and an ice cream shop!). Needless to say, I've consumed my fair share of snow cones this summer. Best combo thus far- cotton candy, blue raspberry, and watermelon. YUM. Now I'm craving a snow cone...

Cooling Off

Man, it was HOT this weekend! While I really enjoy summertime and everything that comes with it (minus mosquitos, of course) the weather last weekend was brutal!

The only other beef I have with summer is that I don't do very well in extreme heat and humidity. As my mom says, I'm a "fragile flower". This is gross, but I sweat at the drop of a hat. I don't even try to look cute at festivals or other day-long outdoor events anymore. It's a total lost cause.

Also, I barely tan and burn to a crisp without my SPF 50 (yes... I use 50... don't judge.) My year round freckles do become PRETTY amazing in the summer though. I used to hate them, but now I've accepted my specks and love them.

On Sunday though, we finally got some relief in the form of a huge thunderstorm. I'm not a fan of storms, but I was so thankful for this one! This entire week has been beautiful as a result. Mid-seventies all week... glorious!

How cool is this pocket watch necklace? I saw it and couldn't resist. Also just to warn you, I was pretty much a walking Target advertisement this day... whoops! I didn't even realize it until after the photos were taken. Slightly embarrassing, but who cares- I really love these pieces together!

Oh Happy Day!

Great news! I FOUND MY CAMERA CORD! After ransacking my entire apartment, I finally found it tucked away in the pocket of a purse. I must have shoved it in there to upload pictures at work one day. Anyway, moving on to the good stuff- photos!

This past weekend Joe and I attended the wedding of- stay with me- his sister-in-law's brother. I think I have mentioned this before, but Joe is a very talented musician. He has an amazing voice and plays a mean guitar. His older brother Chuck (brother-in-law to the groom at this particular wedding) is an even better guitar player, so combined they make a great duo. Joe frequently gets asked to sing and play at weddings (he does a mean Josh Groban ;)) So for this particular wedding, Joe and Chuck played every piece of music for the entire ceremony. They did a great job.

I was just along for the ride, since I only knew a handful of people at this event. It was held at an amazing venue in downtown Indianapolis that overlooks the beautiful Indy skyline and the weather was BEAUTIFUL that night. (I'm not sure about the rest of you guys, but Indy has been getting hit with horrible thunderstorms lately- no fun!) I took advantage of the beautiful night and backdrop and had Joe snap a few photos of me.

Busy Week

Yet another super quick post... I was in St. Louis last weekend for a wedding and leave Friday morning for Chicago for my best friend Taylor's wedding. Last weekend I was just attending the wedding. This weekend I make my very first debut as a bridesmaid! Whoo! I am super excited.

Taylor chose the cutest black dresses (strapless, A-line perfection) for us from White House Black Market. Lots of people like to claim that their bridesmaid dresses can be worn again, but these truly can! (Thanks, Tay!) Still have lots to do this week... last minute errands, mani/pedi, lots of last minute running so the dress looks good! Now I'm off to bed- Night! :)

Quick Update

I got the bike! She's a beauty. Red, vintage, 10 speed road bike. Pictures will come soon. I also need to start thinking of a good name for her! Any suggestions?

Until photos of the bike are up, here are some more of me! ha!

Hello Humidity

Holy humidity... it's so muggy here! I just went for a quick run and am soaked in sweat... (attractive, I know...) The past couple of weeks we have had the craziest weather ever.

Not that drastic and super fast weather changes are out of the norm for Indiana. (Have you ever heard of the saying Hoosiers like to say? "Don't like the weather? Wait 5 minutes, it'll change.")

But lately it's been out of control. Crazy thunderstorms, almost freezing temperatures, back to hot and muggy the next day! Hopefully we can finally start having multiple sunny days in a row. My fingers are crossed!

Monday, Monday

I have exciting news! Last night Joe and I booked flights to San Francisco! A good friend of mine from Butler moved out there after graduation a few years ago and one of Joe's good friends moved out there recently... so we have people to stay/hang out with and I couldn't be more excited!
(Olive was really excited too... She could barely contain herself...)

I have been needing/wanting to take a vacation but couldn't think of what to do. Then my friend Emily (who lives in Oakland) suggested I come for a visit during September to celebrate our back to back birthdays. Our birthdays are three days apart.

So now I'm counting down until September and the awesome 25th birthday celebrations that will take place!

TGIF

Happy Friday! I'm so glad it's the weekend! One of my best friends graduates from college tomorrow (after 6 years of school... she's a pharmacist now. So proud of her!) and one of my other best friends is in town for the occasion! I can't wait to see everyone. It will be lots of fun. On Sunday I am going to my parents house for Mother's Day. Anyone else have exciting weekend plans?

One Week Later

Wow... where did this past week go?! I have been SO unbelievably busy at the office this week- it's insane.

Portland was a whirlwind of a trip. 75% of my time was spent trapped in the hotel conference area, listening to speaker after speaker after speaker...

A co-worker and I did manage to escape and make it to Multnomah Falls (pictures coming soon!) and on the last day our boss took us to the Japanese Gardens (pictures also coming soon!) and out to one of the best dinners ever at a local restaurant called Veritable Quandry. My boss has pretty expensive taste, which means we always get to eat the BEST food!

The highlight of my trip, though, was FINALLY making it to Voo Doo Doughnuts. After seeing this episode of No Reservations, I was on a mission to one day eat a Voo Doo Doughnut. (I know, dream big.) It was quite an adventure getting there and we had to wait 30 minutes in line! But it was totally worth it!

Time to go for a run now! Gotta work off that doughnut. :)

Greetings from Portland

Hello from Portland, Oregon! I flew out here from Indy this morning for a work conference. Talk about a loooooong morning of flying!

I managed to take a couple days worth out outfit photos before I left so I could still do some updating while I'm away.

Olive was being so dang cute this day that I just had to include these! She LOVES sitting in the sun, but she overheats easily... which results in excessive snorting and panting. And she just looks so silly with her tongue hanging out of her mouth like that. This is her "it's HOT" face... a face only a mother could love. :)

We are staying in possibly the swankiest (is that a real word? I don't think so... oh well) hotel I have ever stepped foot inside. It's called The Nines. The rooms are all decked out in silver, taupe, mirrors, crystals, and tiffany's blue! I will post some pictures after the trip. I know I'm really geeking out here, but seriously! It's beautiful!

I also have already managed to do a little shopping (imagine that!) It's just my luck that the hotel is directly across the street from a huge mall. Luckily today is really the only day I have downtime- thank goodness! :) I will leave you with Olive's "I'm tired!" face. Hope everyone's having a great Earth Day!

Happy Friday!

TGIF! This week has been grueling! I am so thankful it's Friday, unfortunately it's also a "double" day for me which means I work at my office job from 8:30 to 4:30, then go sell sushi from 5:00 to 11:00ish. Looooong day!

Okay, gotta go back to work! Sorry for the short post and also for only two posts this week.

I would say next week will be better, but I'm actually going to be in Portland part of next week for a work conference. Minus all the meetings and the fact that I have to give a presentation (eek!) it should be fun! I will be sure to take LOTS of photos while I'm there!

April Flowers

I know the saying is "April showers bring May flowers" but there have been more flowers thus far in my April than showers. And that is a good, good thing! :) These beauties were a gift from Joe. Such a great surprise!

I know it's only been three months, but when I first started this blog I was unsure of how long I would keep it up. Last summer I stumbled upon What I Wore, the first fashion blog I ever read. Through Jessica's blog I found a whole plethora of independent fashion blogs and was totally intrigued. At first I thought it was just all about documenting your outfits-which it is in a way... and that part is really fun! I love seeing how certain outfits look in pictures as opposed to how I viewed them just by looking in the mirror.

What I have learned over the last three months is that it's about much more than just showcasing your wardrobe. It really is a community. The women (and some men) who blog are full of amazing ideas. I've been inspired by countless numbers of outfit posts from different bloggers. It really has been fun digging around in my closet and finding old pieces I had forgotten all about. And I have actually shopped less since I started blogging too! (Of course there are the occasional "OMG I HAVE TO HAVE THAT" moments... *ahem* seychelles heels!)

I also love that these blogs have inspired me to start thrifting again. I used to go to thrift stores ALL the time in high school and early college. Of course back then I was mostly buying little kid t-shirts, but every once in a while I would drag home a real treasure. My life has been pretty hectic lately, but once it settles down a bit the plan is to start hitting up vintage/thrift stores again on a regular basis!
