Oh Happy Day!

Great news! I FOUND MY CAMERA CORD! After ransacking my entire apartment, I finally found it tucked away in the pocket of a purse. I must have shoved it in there to upload pictures at work one day. Anyway, moving on to the good stuff- photos!

This past weekend Joe and I attended the wedding of- stay with me- his sister-in-law's brother. I think I have mentioned this before, but Joe is a very talented musician. He has an amazing voice and plays a mean guitar. His older brother Chuck (brother-in-law to the groom at this particular wedding) is an even better guitar player, so combined they make a great duo. Joe frequently gets asked to sing and play at weddings (he does a mean Josh Groban ;)) So for this particular wedding, Joe and Chuck played every piece of music for the entire ceremony. They did a great job.

I was just along for the ride, since I only knew a handful of people at this event. It was held at an amazing venue in downtown Indianapolis that overlooks the beautiful Indy skyline and the weather was BEAUTIFUL that night. (I'm not sure about the rest of you guys, but Indy has been getting hit with horrible thunderstorms lately- no fun!) I took advantage of the beautiful night and backdrop and had Joe snap a few photos of me.

April Flowers

I know the saying is "April showers bring May flowers" but there have been more flowers thus far in my April than showers. And that is a good, good thing! :) These beauties were a gift from Joe. Such a great surprise!

I know it's only been three months, but when I first started this blog I was unsure of how long I would keep it up. Last summer I stumbled upon What I Wore, the first fashion blog I ever read. Through Jessica's blog I found a whole plethora of independent fashion blogs and was totally intrigued. At first I thought it was just all about documenting your outfits-which it is in a way... and that part is really fun! I love seeing how certain outfits look in pictures as opposed to how I viewed them just by looking in the mirror.

What I have learned over the last three months is that it's about much more than just showcasing your wardrobe. It really is a community. The women (and some men) who blog are full of amazing ideas. I've been inspired by countless numbers of outfit posts from different bloggers. It really has been fun digging around in my closet and finding old pieces I had forgotten all about. And I have actually shopped less since I started blogging too! (Of course there are the occasional "OMG I HAVE TO HAVE THAT" moments... *ahem* seychelles heels!)

I also love that these blogs have inspired me to start thrifting again. I used to go to thrift stores ALL the time in high school and early college. Of course back then I was mostly buying little kid t-shirts, but every once in a while I would drag home a real treasure. My life has been pretty hectic lately, but once it settles down a bit the plan is to start hitting up vintage/thrift stores again on a regular basis!

Date Night

Have I told you yet how HAPPY I am that it's finally nicer outside? (Even though today is chilly and grey... grrr...) But after today, it's supposed to get up into the mid 70s and stay there for over a week! Talk about perfect weather! :)

A few nights ago Joe and I went on a little date night. I live in an area of Indianapolis called Broad Ripple Village. It's a really trendy area full of independant bars, restaurants, and shops. I live within walking distance so it's great to be able to get out and enjoy the weather and my neighborhood now that it's been so beautiful outside!

After dinner, we stopped to get some frozen yogurt. Well actually, Joe got a chocolate milkshake... I got frozen yogurt. Because it's better for you, right? (Is it still considered better if I got chocolate and topped it with fruity pebbles, sprinkles, and mini marshmallows?)

Joe was my photographer for these. It was dark outside by this point so I had to stand in a specific spot in order for the pictures to be halfway decent. Even though I prefer having Joe take pictures for me, sometimes he's just too funny and I just end up cracking up the whole time. That was the case this night. Even though the pictures aren't that great, I still love them because they remind me of that fantastic, warm night and how much I love my Joe. :)

Over the Weekend

This past weekend was a whirlwind! On Friday night, I worked. In addition to my office job, I work a couple night a week at a sushi bar... I have been working at the sushi bar on and off for going on four years now (!!!)... I started my junior year of college, came back after I graduated and had a hard time finding a full time job (I majored in Arts Administration... and it is slightly difficult to find a good, non-profit, arts job these days!), left for a few months, and have been back there two nights a week since November. Whew!

On Saturday night, the boyfriend's band, The Last Good Year, had a show at a local bar. It was so fun! However, it was QUITE the adventure getting TO the bar. My friend, Sarah's, car broke down halfway there, stranding us in a not-so-nice area of town. Long story short, Sarah and I pushed the car from the road into the parking lot of "Big Walt's", while my friend Angie steered. And keep in mind, we were all dressed up for a night on the town, complete with a red jumpsuit, short skirts, heels, and outlandish jewelry. I'm sure we were quite the sight!

But after hanging out at Big Walt's and refusing several rides from strangers, our friend finally picked us up and we made it there in one piece! I got the grey jacket in the photo below at H&M on Saturday for $25.00! It's perfectly 80's/boyfriend. I wish I had better pictures, but this one will have to do! (Sorry ahead of time, to my friend Katie for using her pretty face as well!)

And making his debut blog appearance, the boyfriend! Meet Joe. He's pretty amazing.

This is my favorite picture of the weekend. Joe, and his guitar player, Josh, rocking out. Hope everyone else's weekend was just as fun!

On Sunday, Joe and I went to a thrift store and then went to a pet store to play with puppies. As much as I love looking at the adorable puppies and playing with the ones out in the middle of the store, I really do NOT agree with pet stores. However my love for puppies outweighed my hatred for pet stores this time. sigh. Joe made quite the haul at the thrift store though! He got the most amazing seafoam green, old man, golf jacket I've ever seen for $1.50. We also picked up a Polaroid camera for $2.00. I wasn't as lucky, but I did find some great sunglasses!

Bright White

This is what I wore yesterday. I received this skirt as a Christmas gift and have only worn it twice. It's slightly tricky to style, I think. I never know what color to wear with it! Last Saturday though, I stopped by H&M and picked up this grey shirt. It matches the skirt color almost perfectly, so I figured monochromatic on top meant I could try to pull off purple tights on the bottom! Usually I reserve bright colored tights like this for weekend nights out, but yesterday I wore them to work. Surprisingly, everyone at the office loved them! Anyone have any suggestions about styling this skirt for future wears?

I'm obsessed with this shirt, by the way. I love the lace detailing on the puffy sleeves. And it was only $9! Looks like I might be making another trip to H&M this weekend to pick up a couple more colors...
Overall, I was pretty pleased with yesterday's outfit. I'm looking forward to a fun weekend. The boyfriend is in a band (The Last Good Year- look them up!) and they have a show tonight! And it's Valentine's Day on Sunday. I'm not really into Valentine's Day... for a couple of seasons. 1. I do sort of agree with the whole "hallmark holiday" arguement. And 2. I think you should do nice things for your significant other year round! While we're not doing anything too special, we are planning on the mandatory V-Day date night, which is always a good time. Anyone have any big plans for the "holiday"?

White Winter (Hymnal)

Welcome to my first outfit post! I'm very excited that I am finally posting a daily wear, however, I'm NOT very excited about my self portrait skills. I need some serious practice. And a tripod. And a remote. Or maybe I can just sucker the boyfriend into being my personal photographer... Hmm...

Indianapolis was under a "winter weather alert" all day yesterday. We were supposed to get up to 9 more inches of snow! Luckily, we only received approximately 3". It still made for a sloshy day though. And while I'm a huge fan of winter and all the snow that comes with it... and while I think the fresh layer of bright white snow makes everything look BEAUTIFUL... I am really ready for spring!

Please excuse the poor lighting, cut off pictures, and bad poses. I promise I will get better at this!

I am really loving these shoes! I will admit, they were slightly painful (1/2 size too small... see below), but I love the way they look so I am willing to suffer a little for fashion.

However, this necklace might be my favorite thing about the outfit. The boyfriend got it for me for Christmas. I didn't even tell him I was eyeing it on ModCloth! He has exceptional taste. You will be introduced to him at a later date. I showed my blog to him for the first time last night. I think he liked it! It's good to know he's on board and doesn't think I'm crazy for posting photos of myself all over the internet! ha! He even asked when he gets to make his Olive Jane debut!
