February Grey

I heard on the news last night that there have officially been 17 consecutive days with an inch or more of snow on the ground in central Indiana. UGH is my reaction to that! On top of that it has been sooooo grey outside lately. We haven't had a shred of sunshine in days.

I think Joe and I are going to plan a little get away, though! It probably won't be until late spring or summer, but I'm already excited and it's giving me something to look forward to!

We have two options... 1. road trip out east, driving to Maine and back and hitting destinations on the way. I've never been further east than NYC. Or 2. flying out to Austin, TX! Austin is hands down, my favorite city in the country. We were just there for SXSW last year, but I definitely would love to go back. I love the vibe of the city... and the delicious Mexican food! (Polvo's has THE BEST margarita I have ever tasted... and I have tasted a lot of margaritas!) One of these days I will live there!

Over the Weekend

This past weekend was a whirlwind! On Friday night, I worked. In addition to my office job, I work a couple night a week at a sushi bar... I have been working at the sushi bar on and off for going on four years now (!!!)... I started my junior year of college, came back after I graduated and had a hard time finding a full time job (I majored in Arts Administration... and it is slightly difficult to find a good, non-profit, arts job these days!), left for a few months, and have been back there two nights a week since November. Whew!

On Saturday night, the boyfriend's band, The Last Good Year, had a show at a local bar. It was so fun! However, it was QUITE the adventure getting TO the bar. My friend, Sarah's, car broke down halfway there, stranding us in a not-so-nice area of town. Long story short, Sarah and I pushed the car from the road into the parking lot of "Big Walt's", while my friend Angie steered. And keep in mind, we were all dressed up for a night on the town, complete with a red jumpsuit, short skirts, heels, and outlandish jewelry. I'm sure we were quite the sight!

But after hanging out at Big Walt's and refusing several rides from strangers, our friend finally picked us up and we made it there in one piece! I got the grey jacket in the photo below at H&M on Saturday for $25.00! It's perfectly 80's/boyfriend. I wish I had better pictures, but this one will have to do! (Sorry ahead of time, to my friend Katie for using her pretty face as well!)

And making his debut blog appearance, the boyfriend! Meet Joe. He's pretty amazing.

This is my favorite picture of the weekend. Joe, and his guitar player, Josh, rocking out. Hope everyone else's weekend was just as fun!

On Sunday, Joe and I went to a thrift store and then went to a pet store to play with puppies. As much as I love looking at the adorable puppies and playing with the ones out in the middle of the store, I really do NOT agree with pet stores. However my love for puppies outweighed my hatred for pet stores this time. sigh. Joe made quite the haul at the thrift store though! He got the most amazing seafoam green, old man, golf jacket I've ever seen for $1.50. We also picked up a Polaroid camera for $2.00. I wasn't as lucky, but I did find some great sunglasses!

Music Musts

Tonight I am planning to upload my pictures from this weekend. Expect an "over the weekend" post tonight or tomorrow. Saturday night was quite the adventure... And one of the best times I have had in a long time! More on that later...

Now onto one of my biggest loves: music. I LOVE music. While I am no musician (I wish I could play in instrument... I can sing, does that count??) I have been obsessed with my ever growing music collection since my freshman year of high school. I can actually pin point the exact moment when my taste in music changed forever. It was the beginning of my freshman year in high school. My friend group changed slightly when I joined the show choir (even though I look ridiculous when I dance... it's my goofy long arms) and became active in the theater department. Someone gave me their copy of Radiohead's Kid A and I immediately went out to buy Pablo Honey, The Bends, and OK Computer. I was also lucky enough to have friends with very sophisticated musical tastes (for 15 and 16 year olds especially!) and a few teachers who influenced my tastes as well. One friend in particular (with very eclectic taste), made me countless mix tapes and cds and introduced me to The Talking Heads, Neutral Milk Hotel, and The Faint just to name a few. I also discovered Wilco, Elvis Costello, The Pixies, Ryan Adams, and Muse that year.

Anyway, that was a very long winded way of saying that my taste in music is incredibly diverse and eclectic. I remember being a freshman in college and meeting people in my dorm.... Of course people inevitably start discussing music and hardly anyone knew that bands I was talking about... haha.

I also love making new playlists. I go on kicks where I listen to a certain play list over and over again (especially while I'm getting ready!) My current playlist if one of my all-time favorites ever. Here's a sampling of what's on it and a look into the bands/songs I'm currently loving right now!

Tilly and the Wall- Alligator Skin
The Black Keys- Strange Times (SUPER obsessed w/ these guys right now)
Jenny Lewis- The Next Messiah
Feist- Brandy Alexander
Ke$ha- Tik Tok (I have to admit... I LOVE a good dance song... The last year or so I've been pretty obsessed with electro-pop dance music: The Ting Tings, Lady Gaga, MGMT... and so on)
TV On The Radio- Dancing Choose
Fleet Foxes- White Winter Hymnal
New Young Pony Club- Ice Cream
Chairlift- Bruises
Kings of Leon- Slow Night, So Long

I'm also contantly looking for new music. Any suggestions?

Little Puglet

Today was a pretty blah day for me. The highlight of my day was getting two new pairs of sandals from Target. I can't wait to wear them and it makes me even more excited for spring! (Aren't you ready for it to be spring too so I'll stop talking about it? ha!)

Anyway, since my day wasn't exciting at all, here are some pictures of my pup, Olive! These are some of my favorite pictures of her. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Purple Haze

Yesterday was another super snowy day! It looked as though we were living in a snowglobe for most of the day. You can even see all the little white snowflakes swirling around in these pictures. Seriously, is it spring yet???

On a happier note, I have successfully conned the boyfriend into taking pictures! So far he's been a really good sport. Hopefully once spring rolls around, we can take more time with the pictures and hit up some different locations around Indy. I also have to point out that I'm totally rocking blue jean leggings. The first time I saw other bloggers (Katy of Kansas Couture and Jen of JenlovesKev) wear them I wasn't sure... I ended up finding a pair (on sale!) at New York & Co. and the minute I put them on I knew I had to have them. They are the most comfortable "jeans" ever. And they really do look like blue jeans! They even have a button, back pockets, and seams down the sides. I'm hooked.

LUSH pt. 2

Whew, okay. Just briefly went into panic mode. Over what, you might ask? I thought I lost my LUSH Snow Fairy solid perfume! Ohh the horror of the thought of losing something so wonderful! The horror! No worries though, it was just lost at the bottom of my bag.

Now that I'm done being completely over dramatic, is anyone else out there as in love and obsessed with this stuff as I am? Am I the only one? For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, I highly recommend looking it up.

The snow fairy scent in general is pure amazingness. It smells like candy! yum! The only bad thing is that Snow Fairy is only a holiday scent... So it won't be back around until Christmastime. Luckily I stocked up with two instead of just one! haha, I should be a LUSH spokesperson!

Bright White

This is what I wore yesterday. I received this skirt as a Christmas gift and have only worn it twice. It's slightly tricky to style, I think. I never know what color to wear with it! Last Saturday though, I stopped by H&M and picked up this grey shirt. It matches the skirt color almost perfectly, so I figured monochromatic on top meant I could try to pull off purple tights on the bottom! Usually I reserve bright colored tights like this for weekend nights out, but yesterday I wore them to work. Surprisingly, everyone at the office loved them! Anyone have any suggestions about styling this skirt for future wears?

I'm obsessed with this shirt, by the way. I love the lace detailing on the puffy sleeves. And it was only $9! Looks like I might be making another trip to H&M this weekend to pick up a couple more colors...
Overall, I was pretty pleased with yesterday's outfit. I'm looking forward to a fun weekend. The boyfriend is in a band (The Last Good Year- look them up!) and they have a show tonight! And it's Valentine's Day on Sunday. I'm not really into Valentine's Day... for a couple of seasons. 1. I do sort of agree with the whole "hallmark holiday" arguement. And 2. I think you should do nice things for your significant other year round! While we're not doing anything too special, we are planning on the mandatory V-Day date night, which is always a good time. Anyone have any big plans for the "holiday"?

Currently Coveting

It's no secret that I LOVE to shop. If I had an endless supply of money, my closet would be amazing. But sadly, I don't and I have to spend wisely. It doesn't mean I can't dream though! I'm going to start a series of posts called "Currently Coveting" where I will go crazy picking out anything and everything I wish I could have. Today is the first installment!

White Winter (Hymnal)

Welcome to my first outfit post! I'm very excited that I am finally posting a daily wear, however, I'm NOT very excited about my self portrait skills. I need some serious practice. And a tripod. And a remote. Or maybe I can just sucker the boyfriend into being my personal photographer... Hmm...

Indianapolis was under a "winter weather alert" all day yesterday. We were supposed to get up to 9 more inches of snow! Luckily, we only received approximately 3". It still made for a sloshy day though. And while I'm a huge fan of winter and all the snow that comes with it... and while I think the fresh layer of bright white snow makes everything look BEAUTIFUL... I am really ready for spring!

Please excuse the poor lighting, cut off pictures, and bad poses. I promise I will get better at this!

I am really loving these shoes! I will admit, they were slightly painful (1/2 size too small... see below), but I love the way they look so I am willing to suffer a little for fashion.

However, this necklace might be my favorite thing about the outfit. The boyfriend got it for me for Christmas. I didn't even tell him I was eyeing it on ModCloth! He has exceptional taste. You will be introduced to him at a later date. I showed my blog to him for the first time last night. I think he liked it! It's good to know he's on board and doesn't think I'm crazy for posting photos of myself all over the internet! ha! He even asked when he gets to make his Olive Jane debut!

Shoe Obsessions

Lately I have been extremely obsessed with a certain shade of brown... whiskey brown to be exact. I seriously have to restrain myself from purchasing every single pair or shoes or belt I see in this color.

But after seeing Erin of calivintage sport these Seychelles beauties, I knew I had to have them. So last week I finally broke down and ordered them! They are by far the most expensive pair of shoes I have ever owned, but I'm sure they'll be worth every penny! The should be arriving any day now and I can't wait to wear them.

Ever since I first saw these Steve Madden Brogues back in October/November, it was love. At the time though, I couldn't justify the $70 price tag! Then Saturday, when I hit up the mall, I had one of the luckiest things happen to me! I wandered into Macy's (which I almost never do) and they were having a blow-out shoe sale. Most of the fall/winter shoes were 65% off. I got another 20% off for wearing red (actually, pink flannel, but the woman who sold me the shoes was very nice!). So after all of the discounts, I snagged these babies for $4.65! Even if they are a half size too small (stupid size 9 feet...), I am super excited!

And today, I read that Kyla of Blue Collar Catwalk had similar luck. It was a good weekend for bargain hunters!

Practice Your Pollock

I stumbled across this website today. It is a great way to destress yourself during a busy work day! And what better way to detress than paying homage to one of my favorite artists of all time, Jackson Pollock. Although I will warn you- it is a little addictive! Happy Pollocking!

Living LUSH

Okay, my first month of blogging and my “New Year Resolution” is officially a FAIL. I think about updating this every single day… does that count? I think my problem was that when I started a blog, I wasn’t sure what direction I wanted to go with it. I love the idea of having a fashion/daily outfit posts type of blog. I have been reading those types of blogs for a few months now. I love how the authors of those blogs really challenge themselves to remix and reuse things in their current wardrobes. I also love how thrifty they are! I have been inspired to go out and scour my local thrift stores now because of them. They have also inspired me to take new risks every morning when I get dressed for the day.
However, I’m afraid I’m not dedicated enough to actually keep up with taking photos of myself and posting them everyday. SO now my focus will just be on my life in general- interests, happenings, the puglet (see below), friends and boyfriend, and maaaaaaaybe even and outfit thrown in here or there. I think I can make an entry a day (or every other day) by discussing things I love.
Whew, with all of that said- Today’s topic is about my current obsession… all things LUSH! For those of you who don’t know what LUSH is, it is a company sells fresh, handmade, cosmetics. I first discovered LUSH from my good friend and college roommate, Ellen. A friend of hers worked in the Chicago store and sent Ellen all kinds of yummy smelling treats for the shower! Flash forward a few years to when I rediscovered LUSH online. I had never really used their products, but after I ordered a few bath bombs, I was hooked!
In order to keep from writing an entire book about my love for all things LUSH, I will probably extend this topic into multiple, smaller posts. Sort of product reviews, if you will! My next LUSH topic- SNOW FAIRY!

The Puglet

Meet Olive, my 1.5 year old pug. She is fat and sassy, with style to boot! Until I get some pictures of my daily style, enjoy one of Olive’s very stylish days.

Round 2...

EDIT: I am moving my ill-fated tumblr over here to Blogspot... hopefully by having a better outlet to post, I will be more motivated! :) Currently moving my old posts to this new location, then new updates will begin!

This blog is my New Years Resolution. Normally I don’t think twice about stating a resolution out loud, knowing damn well I won’t be able to keep it. However, this year, I will attempt to keep my word and document my life in photos. My plans for this blog are to showcase my daily (or as close to daily as I can get) outfits, chat up my friends, family, and Joe, and of course, share the daily adventures of the puglet (and namesake of this blog), Olive Jane.
